ÉBEYS will be celebrating World Down Syndrome Day March 20th by wearing mismatched or crazy socks. #LotsOfSocks helps us to get people talking about World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD). We are encouraging students to wear socks that are going to get noticed - they might be mismatched socks or the craziest and most colorful socks, whatever takes their fancy! The date for World Down Syndrome Day being the 21st day of the 3rd month, was selected to signify the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome, which causes Down Syndrome. Socks were chosen because the karyotype of DS chromosomes actually looks like mismatched socks! Please note ÉBEYS will be celebrating WDSD one day early.
